Before you invest in liquid collagen supplements, take a few minutes to read this article. What you learn could help you save money and get the results that you want. The supplements are touted for a number of different things. Each one is mentioned below.

Lose Weight/Build Muscle - These were the first benefits that were attributed to the supplements. Bodybuilders used them to increase their protein intake. In order to build the muscle that they want, the experts suggest as much as one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight per day. That can be difficult to get without going overboard on calories.

At about the same time, it was observed that the supplement seemed to help control the appetite, by conveying a sense of satisfaction. Protein is satisfying. So, any type will do that.

Bodybuilders have found better alternatives in the form of more complete protein supplements, such as whey. There are no magic weight loss aids. People need to be careful about what they eat, aim to get enough protein and exercise regularly. Liquid collagen won't help people lose weight. A better choice would be a good multi-nutritional supplement to protect against deficiencies while dieting.

Reduce Joint Pain - Collagens are some of the protein building-blocks used to make connective fibers throughout the body. The joints and ligaments are connective fibers.

But, joint health is best supported by natural anti-inflammatories like omega-3 fish oil. In addition, a good multi-mineral supplement is beneficial to insure that the body has everything that it needs to build new bones and joints.

There is no respected research supporting the effectiveness of liquid collagen for reducing joint pain, but there are a number of studies supporting the effectiveness of omega-3 supplementation for reducing the pain of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

Improve the Skin's Appearance/Reduce Wrinkles - The elastic fibers beneath the skin's surface are responsible for its firmness. As we get older, the skin becomes less elastic and starts to sag. One of the proteins that make up the fibers is collagen, but there is no reason to believe that taking a supplement containing it would stimulate re-growth of the elastic fibers, which would help reduce wrinkles.

Topically applied creams have been shown to increase the amount of usable collagen within the skin's layers. Creams containing avocado extract are among them.

Creams containing coenzyme Q10 have been shown to reverse wrinkles by as much as 30% after six weeks of use. Liquid collagen supplements have not been shown to do that.

Creams containing the protein keratin have been shown to stimulate the growth of new skin cells, by as much as 160%, in as little as three days. In other words, there are lots of good alternatives for improving the skin's appearance and for reducing wrinkles. Applying nutrients directly, rather than taking them by mouth, seems to provide the biggest benefits.

Of course, if you really wanted to make a big difference, you could use some nourishing skincare products and take some good supplements. However, liquid collagen is not worth your money.
